Biography
Hey! My name is Elizabeth Landis, but most people call me Liz. I’m a harpist, educator, and travel enthusiast. Most days you can find me behind my harp performing in weddings and concerts, arranging music for the harp, or petting my attention-loving cats. Other times I’m next to a harp guiding others in their harp journeys.
I love serving the world by sharing my skills and knowledge with other people. I am so passionate about creating meaningful musical experiences and building personal connections with clients, students, and audiences. At just three years old, when I saw a harp up close for the first time, I knew this was my life’s path! Granted, I had to learn piano first to prove to my parents it wasn’t a passing desire, but over two decades later that passion has never faded!
I played my first wedding when I was twelve, my first large ensemble concert when I was thirteen, and taught my first student when I was sixteen. I spent my last year of high school attending the Interlochen Arts Academy under the tutelage of Joan Holland and went on to study with the legendary teachers Judy Loman at the University of Toronto, Elizabeth Hainen at Temple University, and Dr. Gillian Benet-Sella at the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music. I studied with Nancy Allen while attending the Aspen Summer Music Festival and School, and the iconic Heidi Lehwalder who has guided me to achieve a fluid and tension-free technique at the harp.
All that experience and training has given me a unique skill set that I love using to create amazing musical experiences for others, whether it be at weddings, retirement homes, private events, or local ensembles. With an advanced technical proficiency and musicality I work with clients and other musicians to create pitch-perfect musical experiences.
As a teacher, I serve people who are yearning for a way to communicate music through the harp. I am lucky to train students to develop and craft their musicianship and technique. A firm believer in mindfulness, students learn how to easily diagnose trouble spots and build consistent solutions in the music.
As a concert harpist I serve as principal harpist of Symphony Tacoma and Northwest Sinfonietta, among others. I’ve performed professionally with the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, Seattle Opera, Columbus Symphony Orchestra, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Jacksonville Symphony, Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra, Tallahassee Symphony, Oakland Symphony, Santa Rosa Symphony, Modesto Symphony and more. I am an educator at the Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra’s Marrowstone Music Festival. I’ve performed with the prestigious Aspen Summer Music Festival’s various orchestras, and was showcased in concert with The Lancaster Festival as a Wilkes Fellow. As an educator, I’ve been featured in Harp Column for my exploration of harp injuries and how to prevent them. You can listen to the podcast here or read the article online.
When I’m not engaged with performing or teaching, you can usually find me snacking on Trader Joe’s milk chocolate peanut butter cups snuggled up with my super hot and trumpet-talented Navy husband watching Frasier, Shitt’s Creek, 30 Rock, or RuPaul’s Drag Race. I love photography, travel, and travel photography. You can check it out at my Instagram, Dolce + Dulce.
